York Tuktuks Ltd is a family owned company, offering historical tours of the beautiful city of York. We are also available for weddings and private events. Our tuktuks are 100% electric and therefore zero emissions. Our tours are personal,as we have a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children per tour.
Who are we?
Lindsay and Steve, husband and wife. I am originally from Newcastle and Steve is from South Wales. We have lived in York for 4 years now and love it. We love the history, the culture, the people, everything! The idea of the tuktuks came about when we visited the small town of Mijas in the Costa del Sol. Steve had recently had a disc removed and was recovering from back surgery. Alex was 4 and Eve was 1. Mijas is a beautiful mountain village with white washed houses. The only way to see it was by donkey! Or an electric tuktuk. We opted for the tuktuk and loved it. It was so quiet it didn’t impact the village at all with its tours, there was no loud microphones blaring out commentary, and because it was just us and the guide, we could ask any questions we wanted along the way. A great way to travel!
In February 2016 we started making enquiries, doing some research and bought 2 tuktuks. We then awaited their arrival. They were due July 2016 but didn’t arrive until Sep 2016 where we had to unload them at our lovely local Morrisons, before driving them down to our storage unit. Long story.
Our tours are delivered by Steve. He has a great memory for the facts of York and a real passion for Yorks history and folklore. Whilst on our tuktuks you can relax and enjoy the tour, taking in the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of the wonderful city of York.
York attractions that are included within the tour are the York Minster, Kings Manor, Bootham Bar, Monkgate, Shambles, Pavement, Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, Clifford’s Tower and Dick Turpin’s Grave, not to mention many more in between. The tour lasts between 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending of course, on the traffic situation. The tours start at the War Memorial Gardens on Leeman Road, and end at the same point. Under 4s go free and children are very welcome onboard the tuktuks.
We offer so much more than historical tours, however. Our tuktuks are available for weddings/birthdays/special events and corporate events. We continue to be on the lookout for new opportunities and are happy to deal with any enquries.
